It was very misty this morning and I didn’t have a great sleep last night, so when I saw this guy on the garden fence I was certain I was seeing things. Unfortunately, he flew off before I could grab my binoculars. But later, when I went out to the bin, I spotted him again and managed to grab my camera before he flew off. I think this is the most beautiful bird I have ever seen “in the flesh”!

Agreed – I’ve just got back from a trip from South Africa and spent much time chasing them trying to get shots as nice as this. So cool to get them in your garden.

I know! I was reading in my guidebook how hard they are to spot, especially as they tend to walk on the ground in the shadow of fences or hedgerows, and here’s one sitting on my fence! I was so glad I had the camera handy!

What wonderful pictures … I miss the Hoopoe that I used to spot in Cantal so this little chap so perfectly captured by your skillful hand is very welcome indeed 😊
